Frequently Asked Questions

Which organic vegetables are the best?

Organic vegetables provide the most healthy and nutritious food for people. They are among the most nutritious foods on Earth.

Organic produce is organically grown without pesticides. These chemicals pose grave risks for our health and the environment.

Organic produce also has more nutrients, vitamins minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients. They also contain more fibre, essential fatty acids, enzymes, fiber, and enzymes. Organic produce is more nutritious and healthier.

Organic vegetables taste delicious and are safe for you to eat. Consuming organic produce has no known side effects.

Any grocery store can sell organic fruits and vegetables. Organic fruits and veggies can be purchased at any grocery store provided they comply with USDA guidelines.

Is organic food healthy?

There are two types of foods; those we grow ourselves and those we buy from someone else. Although there are exceptions to each category, most of the answers to your question are yes. Organic food is healthier because it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, preservatives, or genetically modified organisms (GMO).

You can find organic food in supermarkets across North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Most grocery stores now carry organic food, making it easier for consumers to choose organic products.

Organic food is healthier and tastes better because it contains more vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients. Organics are also grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, so they don't pollute our soils and water supplies.

The USDA regulates organic farming practices. They require farmers to follow strict guidelines so that organic produce can be eaten safely. There are over 30 million acres of US organic farmland.

As an added benefit, organic food is often much cheaper than conventional food. Consumers are paying less for the same amount of calories, protein, and nutrients. Organic farms can charge lower prices for their crops since they aren't required to pay for expensive chemical inputs such as insecticides or fungicides.

According to the Environmental Working Group Organic food is actually 10 percent more expensive per pound than conventionally grown food. Consider switching to organic foods if you are concerned about your health and the well-being of your family.

Organic food has become an increasingly popular alternative to American standard diets. It is often believed that organic food is exclusive to specialty markets and gourmet restaurants. You can easily purchase organic food in regular grocery stores throughout the United States.

The sales of organic food have increased dramatically in recent years. Organic food market value in the US increased from $21 billion to $43 billion in 2007 to reach $43 billion in 2012.

Is organic meat more nutritious?

If you've been paying any attention, you likely already know the answer. But here's the rub, organic food is becoming more popular while conventional food continues to fall out of favour.

Organic foods are more appealing because they are healthier. Organic foods are safer for our bodies and help to reduce pollution.

But there are two sides to this coin. Organic produce takes longer to grow and requires more resources to do so. Organic food is more expensive than non-organic.

Organic meats are generally more expensive than conventionally raised animals. There are however ways to lower these costs without sacrificing the quality of organic meats.

Locally grown produce is a great way to save money. Buy locally grown vegetables and fruits to help keep prices low. Farmers receive incentives to grow healthier crops.

A great way to save money is to search for deals. There are often discounts offered when purchasing organics.

Finally, another way to save money is by eating less meat. Meat production can be costly due to the feed needed to raise livestock.

There are many reasons that organic food is better than regular food for our bodies, and also for the planet. However, it is important to remember the price.

What are organic fruits and vegetables?

Organic food is free from pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and hormones. Organic foods contain more nutrients like vitamins A, C and E, as well as omega-3 fatty oils. Organic food is better for the earth and our bodies because of these healthy ingredients.

Organic foods are produced using sustainable agricultural practices that protect soil quality and promote biological diversity. They are free of toxic chemicals, irradiation and sewage effluent.

Many organic products are not associated with produce. They include dairy and meat, poultry, eggs baked goods, pet food, household cleaning supplies, and personal care products.

"Organic" is defined by the USDA as crops that have been grown following strict guidelines set forth in federal government standards. To grow these foods, farmers cannot use non-organic (or conventional) methods. They can use approved natural pest control methods such as crop rotation, cover cropping and organic animal feed.

A farmer must also adhere to guidelines about how much fertilizer or pesticide he applies during the growing season. Also, he must rotate his fields between different crops. GMOs, artificial growth hormones, synthetic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers are not allowed in the fields of farmers.

Produces labelled as 100% organic meet all requirements. However, some farms won't claim that their products are 100% organic. This would confuse the consumers. Instead, they will call their product "made using organic ingredients." "

What are my top priorities when buying organic products

Look for USDA-certified organic labels. This guarantee that the product has met specific standards set forth by USDA. You will find the USDA Organic seal on all boxes, cartons and cans.

When shopping for meat, ensure it comes from cows fed 100% organic feed. Cattle are ruminants. This means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle have 4 stomach compartments: Rumen, reticulum and omasum. If the cow is to be labeled "100% organic", all of its parts must have been organically fed.

When buying chicken, make sure it comes only from chickens fed 100% organic feed and never given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. Omnivorous chickens possess a digestive tract made up of a crop.

Buy dairy products that are 100% organically produced. Just like ruminants have four stomachs, dairy cows have four. The fourth stomach compartment--the cow's udder--is where milk is produced.

If you are buying other types of livestock, make sure to check the label to determine the percentage of their diet. For example, pork may be marked "95% organic" to indicate that 95 percent of the pork's feed is organic.

How can I tell if my produce has been certified organic?

These labels will help you ensure that organic produce is purchased.

USDA Organic Certified - Produce certified by the USDA as being 100% organic.

Certified Naturally Grown - Produce that has passed strict requirements for organic practices but has not yet received certification from the USDA.

Pastured/Free Range – Produced from animals that live outdoors and graze on grasses or herbs.

These labels indicate whether the product meets certain criteria.

  • There are no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers
  • No genetically modified organisms
  • Animals are never given antibiotics
  • Animals are never given hormones.
  • There are no growth-promoting drugs
  • No feed additives
  • No artificial ingredients
  • No irradiation
  • There's no sewage waste sludge
  • GMOs banned
  • No antibiotics ever given
  • No hormones ever given
  • No growth-promoting medications
  • No feed-additives
  • No artificial ingredients
  • No sewage effluent (if it isn't a GMO).
  • No irradiation

What are the health benefits of organic foods?

Some organic foods may not prove to be good for you. For those who consume them regularly, however, they can offer certain health benefits.

Organic food is produced without artificial fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, hormones, antibiotics, or genetic engineering. Organic produce is free from harmful chemicals that could cause harm to human health.

Also, there are fewer additives that are used in processing. Organic products are more nutritious than those made from non-organic ingredients.

Studies have shown that organic fruits and vegetables contain more nutrients than those grown conventionally.

Even though organic farming methods can be more costly than conventional farming methods they are often more productive. Organic farming encourages soil fertility and biodiversity.

This helps to prevent erosion and conserve water resources. Organic farms require less fuel and energy because they don't contain toxic chemicals.

Some people fear that organic foods can be more costly than conventional foods. However, prices vary depending on where you live. For example, organic apples tend to be more expensive than traditional apples.

But if you look at the total price of a basket of both types of fruit, you'll see that buying organic is cheaper.

So, should you buy organic?

It depends on you. You shouldn't bother if you don't enjoy organic food.

However, if you enjoy good-tasting food, you can buy organic food. Organic food is safer because organic produce is not grown by commercial growers who use pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

Organic agriculture preserves our environment by conserving natural resource and encouraging biodiversity.

How To

What you need to know about organic foods

Organic foods are produced from plants and animals that have been grown without the use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers or other additives. They are not subject to genetic engineering or the use of ionizing radioactive radiation. The food must not contain artificial flavours, colours, flavour enhancements, or preservatives. It cannot contain genetically modified organisms.

In 1845, Justus Von Liebig, an aspiring chemist and entrepreneur, created the term "organic" to describe the properties found in manure. The term organic is often associated with food production. In this context, organic means that the product contains only naturally occurring substances such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and minerals that occur in nature.

The consumption of organic foods has risen dramatically in the past decades. Recent statistics indicate that approximately half of the world’s population eats at least one organic food per day. This percentage continues to rise and is projected to increase by 70%, 80%, or 90% by 2020.

There are many reasons consumers choose organic products. Some prefer the flavor, while others prefer them because they are healthier. Others also believe organic farming makes it more sustainable. Some consumers choose non-organic products because of ethical concerns about farm workers' and animal treatment.

While organic food is generally more expensive than traditional foods, prices do vary depending upon where you live. The price of organic food is affected by several factors. One is the availability and cost of land that can be used for organic agriculture. Another factor is the price of inputs as well as labour for organic farming. Transportation costs, marketing expenses, and taxes are all factors. In Europe, for instance, the average price for organic food in Europe is 10% higher than its regular price.

The main differences between organic and conventional foods are summarized below.

  • Organic produce does not contain any chemicals, hormones or antibiotics.
  • Organic livestock is fed grasses and grains, rather than corn and soya meal.
  • Organic milk comes only from cows who are fed hay and pasture grasses all-naturally.
  • All raw materials used in organic manufacturing processes are certified organic.
  • No pesticides or other harmful chemicals are allowed during organic fruits and vegetables' growth and processing stages.
  • Organic meat, poultry and seafood are not subject to radiation.
  • Before using raw nuts or seeds, they must be soaked.
  • Organic cooking uses only healthy oils.
  • Organic eggs are laid naturally by hens.
  • Honey is extracted using traditional methods by bees.
  • Organic chocolate uses beans and sugar that have been organically farmed and processed.
  • Organic wines are made without chemical additives.
  • Organic tea leaves are made from hand-picked plants.
  • Organic cotton is grown without any form of pesticide or herbicide.
  • Organic cereals and flours don't contain preservatives or artificial colours.
  • Shampoos and soaps made from all natural ingredients are free of harsh chemicals.
  • All-natural cosmetics are safe for your skin.
  • All natural cleaning solutions are biodegradable and eco-friendly.
